Discover Unseen Thailand Beautiful Place Part 2

Are you coffee lover? I would like to confess to all of you that i’m hardcore fan of coffee and my favorite cup is hot americano. During my New Year vacation to Chaing Mai  and Chaing Rai province, i have a chance to taste, “Wild Civet Coffee”, one of the most expensive and rare coffee blend in the world.

Wild Civet Coffee, Doi Chang

As i studied from the website and other sources, Civet, the animal living in the tropical forest, will eat coffee seed as its food and the seed will passed through the Civet’s stomach without digestion generating new kind of high quality blend with unique tropical forest smell called Wild Civet Coffee.

On the highway from Chaing Mai to Chaing Mai, i have visited local cafe named “Doi Chang”. At first, I think this is general cafe like others in the gas station, however, i was wrong because Doi Chang cafe is one of the most imminent bland name coffee in the northern region of Thailand. This café is quite distinctive from others as it decorated with unique style inspired by local mountaineer people.

The list of coffee and bakery menu is the same as other cafe including espresso, americano, latte etc. but i noticed that there is one different menu from other general cup of coffee as this cup called “Wild Civet Coffee”. Certainly, Wild Civet Coffee is the most expensive cup in this coffee shop as the price is 300 baht per cup (approximately 10 US Dollar). The reason why this blend is so expensive is it is very rare and, in Doi Chang, this type of blend can be produced only 100 kilograms per year.

After tasting this high valued coffee, i found that Wild Civet Coffee’s flavor, like high quality wine, is quite distinctive from general blend because this dark blend has its own sweetness (you don’t have to add additional sugar) together with tender smell of tropical forest. In my opinion, this expensive blend is recommended for hardcore coffee fan only because if you’re the one who prefer to drink ice coffee regularly, you may think this cup is too bitter for you.

Before leaving this café, i’m really want to see the factory of Doi Chang coffee after tasting such premium blend, then, i ask the waiter about the way to reach to Doi Chang’s coffee factory as i will tell you about fantastic scenery of Doi Chang on my next post.
